Step 1. Complete the prerequisite education and pass CCB's statewide test.:
In Oregon, to qualify to become a licensed contractor an individual must be 18 years of age or older.
Step 2. File your assumed business name, corporation or LLC at the Oregon Corporation Division.
Step 3. Submit a CCB surety bond.
In order to get a bond, you should check the yellow pages or contact an insurance agent. You should shop around to get the most competative price on a surety bond. Keep searching even if some companies turn you down because of bad credit. Often you can find a company to grant you a high-risk bond.
Step 4. Provide proof of general liability insurance.
Like with the bond, you should shop around for the best price on liability insurance.
Step 5. Provide evidence of worker's compensation and other employer account numbers if applicable.
You do not need to provide worker's compensation if you do not have employees. However, partnerships, corporations and LLC's do need workers' compensation if there are more than two partners, corporate officers, or members who are not all immediate family members.
Step 6. Submit a completed CCB application with the appropriate fees.
The application may be obtained here or by calling 1-800-966-9596.
